I understand when you reach old age you are allowed to wander in the past and reminisce about the "Good Old Days" so that is what I am going to do. Some of you may be able to relate but the majority will have to take my word for it. I think for today I am going to wander down memory lane via "soap opera's" They were a prelude to the soap opera's you see today on TV. They were called that because the sponsers were all soaps. Oxydol, Duz (does it all) Tide, and of course Ivory (99% pure)I would have to enlighten you on one aspect of "the good ole days
soap operas" Sex as it is today was never discussed. I remember "Helen Trent" was one character. She was supposed to tell us if one could find true love after 35. Then there was "Our Gal Sunday" who lived in a little mining town in Colorado. Then there was "Ma Perkins" who had Ebby and Shuffles. Then at night there was "Pepper Youngs Family" I was able to listen to most of the noon ones on my school lunch hour. I had to leave just before Ma Perkins ended. My brothers would hee-haw about the characters but that was different if they were listening to "Jack Armstrong the All American Boy" or "Sky King" To me in a way they were like soap operas. A continued story. Of course Saturday morning the kids had their moments with "Let's Pretend" sponsered by cocoa wheat. Is that still on the market.?????
